It”s no secret that “comics-to-film” is the new Hollywood formula for success... and who are we to buck a trend? That’s why Zeros 2 Heroes Media is beyond pleased to announce a partnership with the Harold Greenberg Fund (“The Fund”), a heavyweight in the Canadian film and television industry.

For those who might not be familiar with their track record, the Fund has backed giants in the Canadian film industry: people like Atom Egoyan and David Cronenberg. And each year, hundreds of seasoned screenwriters take their shot and apply for the handful of grants available through the Fund: needless to say, the competition is stiff.

Having the Fund get behind the Zeros 2 Heroes community is big, big news. Through their support, one of the winning writers selected through Canada: Comic Creation Nation will be awarded a $15,000 script development loan to develop their comic property into a feature length screenplay. Yeah.

To say this opportunity is “big” would be an understatement. Expect to see renewed activity from the winners-to-date as they try to win your support for Comic Creation Nation: Round 2.

What is the Harold Greenberg Fund?

A division of Astral Media, the Harold Greenberg Fund/Le Fonds Harold Greenberg is Canada”s largest private funding agency and is well-known for promoting the best and brightest of Canadian talent. How will the winner be selected?

Firstly, your pitch must have been selected through the Canada: Comic Creation Nation process. If you haven’t pitched yet, it’s time to get busy.

Secondly, Zeros 2 Heroes will be launching a full campaign behind Astral Media The Harold Greenberg Fund, including a new online tool to help you win the crowd. Stay tuned!

Thirdly, the Fund will apply their usual magic to assess your writing ability, the strength of your pitch / comic, and the “heat” generated around your property. We’ll make this process as transparent as possible, but all decisions are — of course — final.

How do I improve my odds of being selected?

We can be bribed.

Kidding. The strength of your writing will speak for itself, as will your background and pedigree... not much you can do to change those now.

But the one wild card we’ve inserted into the mix is “fan-tensity”. Our new tool will not only empower creators to tell their personal story, but also harness the support of fanboys from across the interwebs. The more effort you exert here, the better your chances will be.
