We were chatting about Superman on The Gutter last night and I did a poor job of defending Kal-El from the haters. (Not mentioning any names).

Short and sweet - there have been some writers who have done some regretable things with Superman's continuity - but poor writing is to blame. Superman certainly does not have a monopoly on bad writing. The thing is that he's such a boy scout that he gets on people's nerves a bit. I am in the midst of typing up my script, and I'm using a scene from a play. As I'm doing it, I suddenly wonder if I'm violating copyright. What's the rules about using scenes from other things in a comic?

When I started the pitch I rated it M, sort of as an open-ended decision.
