Hey everyone. This is Professor Whizzywig. Time for a REAL ReBoot update.
On Friday, ChiefZero called in On-FireWire, smartens, and myself (the writer) for the inaugural ReBoot comic production meeting. There, many of my questions were answered. Here's what I learned:
The initial comic will be a web-comic, presented here on Z2H. They really want to do a full printed version but they're waiting to see what kind of readership the comic gets. If enough people read it, they'll print it and distribute it.
The first 22 pages will be a "volume one", and further volumes will follow so long as readership levels are maintained. They've left it up to me to determine how many volumes the GNOSIS story will require.
The comic will be updated in pieces rather than be dumped on the site in one giant chunk. That means the entire 1st volume may take a month or more to be presented fully. This is good because it means the audience will grow over time. It also means thatI need to write the comic in a series of modular 2-5 page scenes. Should be interesting...
Our editor will work with smartens to determine how the artists will work together. Smartens himself will do the cover, but all other work will be done by the 4 selected fan artists: endian, Ale Aragon, Enzo, and divineroseboot.
The editor is a man named Julian Lawrence, a respected comic professional and teacher in Vancouver. I haven't met him yet, but we're having another meeting this week sometime. I'm not yet sure what his involvement will be in the story.
Today, I begin working on the story... finally! In a few minutes, I'm going to review the pitch, create a basic outline of all the mandatory events, figure out how many comic volumes are required to tell the story, create a real outline, and then... then I actually get to write. Wish me luck!
Oh... and we still need a new name for the comic since Arrival doesn't really work any more. I'm open to suggestions.

I don't know when the comic will debut, but we've decided that the first volume's script needs to be done by the end of September. My intention is to have regular updates. I don't know what kind of schedule will make the best sense though. Haven't got that far yet. :)

I can't wait to see the first installment! It won't be too long now until the story of ReBoot is continued! Regarding the name, I seem to remember a post where you posted a list of possible names... and I remember I really liked one of them... but I can't seem to find that list. I'll keep searching. And I have a quick question about the Writing Contest goodie, but I'll PM you about that...

I can't wait to see this whole comic when it's done. It's been a long process but I've stuck with Arrival since the beginning. Good luck for the future ProfWW. I look forward to maybe meeting you one day.

Awesome, can't wait to see the first installment. And as for a name, how about maybe "ReBoot: Ascension" in reference to Gnosis' desire to become more like a User, as well as Bob's rise to a leadership role for the Guardians.

Oh, I think it's going to be longer than 2 weeks. That's just to get the script done. I have no idea how long the art will take. I heard ChiefZero say something about November. Don't get too excited yet. :) DredZed Reboot: Ascension huh? That sounds pretty good. It even fits in with the Vector subplot I narrowed down today, where Vector travels into the Web Game to - oops! Sorry, no more spoilers! I'll suggest that to the team.

About the title... the plot elements discussed earlier involved challenging some of the usual ways of thinking (Viruses = evil monsters, Gnosis believing it can cross over into Userhood). Changing ways of thinking can be called a paradigm shift. And since I'm a sucker for puns, I thought of "Paradigms Lost."

Yay! It's good to get an update on the Reboot comic. I like ReBoot: Ascension for the new name. Sadly I cannot think up my own suggestion for it. The paradigm one I'm not sure about. I like the use of the word. In fact I think the title is rather clever. Damn, now I'm not sure which one I like better... Anyways, in the words of Reboot; Stay Frosty!

yay for updates! I remember there was an entry some time ago about names where a lot of people made suggestions... don't remember whose or where it was though^_^;; Anyhow I've always liked Ascension, and if it turns out that it fits with dear Vector, then that's awesome. Paradigms Lost also appeals to me, particularly because the fact that it's a pun totally fits the spirit of ReBoot. However on that line of thought it feels to me more an episode name or chapter title than a comprehensive title for the whole story. That's just my opinion~~

Excellent to read this! Actually, I came here a couple days ago to read up on recent status reports, but this site makes it nearly impossible to find anything. If it weren't for Slackbot, I wouldn't have seen this. As for a title, the volumes could individually have names, and all the suggestions including "ReBoot: Stay Frosty" and "Ascension" sound as though they could name only a specific portion. How about "ReBoot: The Read-only Files"? ;)

Hmm well I had a thought for a name... It's kind of cheesy but its kind of an homage to Glitchbob and we got it back plus it sounds ReBooty to me. Revival Arrival. Lol :P

lol. Revival Arrival I think the comment by endian says it all. These sound like volume/chapter titles. Speaking of the "volumes". Are 22 pages really considered a volume? Since this is going to be a webcomic then I can see how they could be called this, but if you compare it with published comics then these are more like chapters. I assume you guys can see this. Anyways I have another old saying from ReBoot: This is bad, very bad. Could be a possible chapter/volume title. =P

I really like that "Paradigms Lost", but yeah, it's more like an "episode" title. Ascension is awesome; I don't see how some think it wouldn't be fitting for an overall story title. I don't know if it would be good, though, to have an upwards themed kind of title-- we just had Daemon Rising, and now Ascencion? That would be my only issue. The new suggestion of Eminence could work. I'm no good with names, if I were I'd try to think up one... (well, I am trying, just not suceeding...) Anyway, this is great news! Yay, now the story won't be all squished and rushed and stuff. ^^ And, we are mature people... We can wait for the updates. Right? Hmmm... well, at least just barely... so don't take too long! (Please don't start running on comic book time... O.o) Wishing you all the best as you start writing and designing and drawing and whatever else it takes! Eeeeee!!! ^^

To Professor WhizzyWig How about Reboot: Evolution? I remembered Underworld Evolution and it is about the evolution of vampires. Well Reboot is going through an evolution as well; characters new and old are receiving updates. Also the story expands the world of Reboot.

Yes..X-Men Evolution came before Underworld: Evolution (completely different, I know, but I'm doing a title comparison). I thought up some title ideas but they now seem crap. Here they are anyway: Reign of Gnosis Reboot: Corruption I prefer the first title. 'Ascension' seems good. Oooh! Here's another idea: Beyond Virals

Lightwave: If you want to keep up on this project, simply bookmark the Arrival_Producer blog (click on Arrival_Producer under 'most popular blogs' on the top left). We might be moving to a new blog area soon though, so keep an eye on things. I'm really liking Ascension, thought aqualac does bring up a good point about the 'upwards' themed title. Still, it's my favourite suggestion yet.

Yay yay I am so happy! And... I like the Ascension idea. It's a powerful word with a regal connotation, yet it hasn't been used before in anything (that I can think of at least!) yay yay yay i love reboot yay yay !

I put in my bid for "ReBoot: Ascension" a few weeks ago in another blog, and now I can't find it. Oh well....I still think Ascension is the best descriptor for not only what Gnosis is trying to do, but for the other characters and their developement, as well.

Acension is good. I like Slackbot's suggestion too. Here's a few more titles to throw in the mix: ReBoot: Rise of Gnosis (as opposed to Ascension) ReBoot: Regenerated (regeneration of the series, regeneration of the characters (new format), Gnosis' regeneration... maybe not >_>) ReBoot: Transformation (?_?) ReBoot: Reverence (Gnosis thinks its GOD or at least its trying to become the User, which in the past seems to be referenced as the 'creator of systems') Okay so they were stupid ideas but maybe they can encourage better titles from everyone else lol

Darn TurtleDreamer, I thought I was being original when I came up with Ascension. Well, I didn't know about that other thing before I thought of it, so I guess it still kinda counts, lol. Either way, really happy to see that so many people like it. Whether that's the name that is chosen or something else is, I'm just glad to have some new ReBoot coming. Can't wait to hear more and eventually see the comic.

This is good news! I have a few questions - One, when is the webcomic scheduled to debut? Soon, I hope. Two, will installments appear on a scheduled basis? I sincerely hope so, as I think that regular updates are the way to build up the readership, and especially to keep the interest of less-than-hardcore fans.
