So NSI playWRITE got me thinking about video games based on comic properties. I've picked up a bunch of Hulk and Spider-Man games over the years, but I'm sure I've only scratched the surface. So I want to put it out to the Z2H braintrust: What are the best comic-based video games currently available? (Easily purchased used is fine.)
Lately I've only been playing games on my computer, but I'm thinking of buying a Wii, PS3, or XBox 360. Game-wise, do they all have equal selections, or does one system have exclusive games that just kick ass?

Good comic-based games are a tough find, I think. M:UA is a pretty good one, although its replay value isn't that wonderful. Spidey games are decent, for the most part. And I will always cherish that X-Men game for the Sega Genesis, that was kickass.

Hulk smash real good. But the monsters of Rampage smash (and chomp) even better. If they only release Rampage Total Destruction for the Wii, I'm going to have to get a Wii. (Sorry for intruding on your comic game discussion with this, but King Kong and Godzilla were inspirations for this game and they've surely been featured in comics, right?)

Hmm. Doesn't sound like there's much out there. But thanks for the ideas; I'll check them all out.

comic and movie games in general are usually crappy because they are viewed as just vehicles to make more money and they know people will buy them just because. But as for systems, Wii has some really cool stuff. XBOX 360 has some great exclusives and if you like story driven games where you can decide the outcome and your choices count, Mass Effect is very well done (It is M mind you). Other than that, PS3 doesn't have a lot going for it right now but things could turn around... but I definitely wouldn't support spending all that money on one unless you are looking for a low prices blu-ray player. :D But yeah. That's my take on things.

I have to agree with Titan, PS3 is a great choice...you know, just as soon as about mid 2009 comes around. From what I've seen that pretty much when all of it's good stuff is slated to come out. The Wii is really fun, but I found that the novelty of it wore off within a month or so. At first you're like 'Whoa, I'm bowling by moving my arm like I'm actually bowling!' and then you're just like 'I've realized that I can sit down and I just have to flick it to get strikes'. I know practically nothing about the Xbox 360. My favorite game based on a comic book (sort of) is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Hyperstone Heist. All you need to do is break out a Sega Genesis or get an emulator. I only played a bit of Spidey 2 for the PS2, but it was extremely fun. Other than that I can't think of anything I played recently that weren't crap that was clearly rushed to production to come out with the movie, though I don't play too many comic book based games to begin with.

Not a lot this gen for comic book games, aside from the awful Spider-Man 3 and the pretty decent Marvel Ultimate Alliance. You might want to look last gen, and pick up a PS2 for Hulk: Ultimate Destruction and the much less crappy Spider-Man 2.
