In the world of Rip Current, the water levels have risen, and people have been forced to protect the remaining land. No one lives 'on the land' anymore... they all live in huge walls that encircle the land.

A few weeks ago, I noticed an article in the Vancouver Sun. An architect by the name of Richard Balfour, was quoted as saying that Metro Vancouver residents needed to move offthe valley floor and into the hills in order to keep the land clear for agriculture.

Now, I'm not sure the ever-increasing cost of oil (and therefore of imported food) would be enough to initiate the changes Balfour proposes... but it is always interesting to see these things crops up to support the concepts I 'invented' for my futuristic vision for Rip Current.

Freaky. But hey, having watched An Inconvenient Truth twice over the past week, with its segment about ice caps or ice land masses breaking off and raising the sea level, makes me consider moving off of Montreal (which is an island) and look to the Canadian Shield's heights...
