Since I don't have classes on Fridays (yeah, it's pretty awesome), I decided to walk down the nearby theatre and get an afternoon full of Iron Man. Now, I have to admit that when they showed the first Iron Man preview the CGI looked good but I thought that overall the movie seemed a little lacking. Also I wasn't thrilled to hear that Robert Downey Jr. was going to play Tony Stark as it didn't really seem like a good fit. Well right here right now I am officially eating those words.
I'm not going to mention anything about the plot because it just opened and I don't want to reveal anything but I will say that it was a really good superhero movie. RDJ did a great job as Tony Stark, his Stark was fun but complex, and nothing if not believable. There were a few instances where he was given a cheesey or cliche line, but he really made them work with the skill of an actor that I don't usually attribute to him. The movie mainly focused on him, but everyone in the supporting cast fit their part perfectly as well. Hell, even the actors that barely ranked above the extra status did a good job.
The movie is fun, funny, and cool with some great special effects. If you liked the Spider-Man movies you'll like Iron Man, it ranks right up there with the original and definitely towers of the sequels.

I just got back from seeing it myself. I still haven't stopped flailing, and my brother won't stop humming the opening riff from Ozzy's "Iron Man." Didja catch the little scene after the credits, perchance?

No, I didn't. I wanted to stay, but my girlfriend wasn't too keen on it. She generally tends to decide what we end up doing....

I want to say super glue her to her seat so she has to stay, but that's mean... Bribery?

Okay, then I won't give much away. But there is a little bit after the credits, and I cheered so loud that I missed a bit of the dialogue.

I would've told her to get out if she wanted to and wait by the concession stands. 'I'm my own man, lady!!' *flexes biceps* Seriously, though, that sucks. What's a few extra minutes? Granted, when you have to pee real bad it's a few painful extra minutes, but in this case, she was just in a hurry to leave, I take it?

Well to be fair to her, I didn't know there was anything after the credits I usually just stay to make sure. She on the other hand wanted to leave, though she did enjoy the movie and was quite disappointed to find out that we'd missed an end scene. Plus, I think Iron Man finally convinced her to at least take a look at some of my comics and see if she likes them. CW, I heard that you're going to be The Hulk's stunt double in the new movie. Is it true?

The only thing the new Hulk movie has going for it is Edward Norton, and apparently there is a version of the film he likes better than what we get in the theatres and he is not going to be doing the talk show circuit to promote the film. To me, that no sound so good. As to the girlfriend, without knowing specifics I will offer no jewels of advice. Only this, if it was a "ok lets go"(said in a suggestive manner, not commanding) and you said "ok", then no foul. If it was "ok lets go" followed by a cracking whip sound, well...it has its place but conversation ain't it(if you know what I mean)

My understanding is that Norton wanted a longer, more dramatic version, but the studio felt a shorter version which emphasized the action more would be more commercial. For a Hulk movie, I'd have to agree with the studio.

Depends on what you mean by longer. For me the interesting part of the Hulk is not just Hulk Smash! and the madder Hulk gets, etc. but rather the dichotomy between Banner and his gray or green altar ego. More story, if well crafted, is never a bad thing (unless we're talking three hours or something like that). You may be right that this version will be more commercial but it will be too much sizzle and not enough steak for me if what you are all saying is true. And Asclepius, I say keep her if seeing Iron Man may be enough to bring her "into the light"!

Jon Favreau deserves a lot of credit for respecting the story - that focus showed throughout the movie. Everything that happened in the movie was connected to the central story arc, and supported that. Action reveals character.
