Welcome to The Gutter!

A regular podcast in a panel discussion format between myself and three (well, two at any given time) respected members of the Z2H community, discussing current events in Zedtown, hot blog topics, open and candid reviews and suggestions for up and coming Z2H writers.

This week we're discussing "The Siege of Hao" by Bryce Williams (Titan.inc), and offering up feedback and suggestions for improvement. Also on the docket are discussions of the beta book and production process, the tribulations of an apocalyptic lounge singer, how much Superman sucks, Blake Undying the Video Game, and famous starships.

CAUTION: As you may be aware, we suffered some rather severe technical difficulties over the two plus weeks that we've been attempting to bring you this edition of The Gutter, braving catatonia, repeated connection loss, and a brush with domestic disturbances.

Please bear with our technical difficulties, and enjoy the intermission music with our compliments

This Week's panel:

Morgan "MorganJ" Jeske: Beta Book pioneer and one time Zeros 2 Heroes intern, Morgan is even more exciting in person than he is in the podcast, and don't let the voices in his head tell you differently.

Christian "Fetternity" Major: Our own Simon Cowell. Pulls no punches, and tells it like it is. If your pitch needs a rework, Chris will tell you. Which makes it all the more satisfying if he gives you praise, because you know that praise is well and truly earned.

Dylan "Crackwalker" Edwards: CCN winner, resident professional, and master of a wealth of real world experience in the industry. Dylan brings a lot to the table, and seems to have an inexhaustible grab bag of knowledge to draw from.

And of course, yours truly, Jason "Lord Maim" Cook: At various times I've been accused of eating kittens, shaking babies, plagiarizing the X-Files, and all manner of "Cabal" related chicanery. On the advice of my legal counsel, I will neither confirm nor deny these allegations. What I do know is what works. My track record speaks for itself... hopefully.

Now it's up to you. Have a pitch that you want polished? Need some additional exposure for your work that the commentary of four seasoned professionals can provide? Now's your chance.

For those of you in the know, the "gutter" is the space between comic panels, lending shape to the artwork, defining the story. Let us do the same for you. Volunteer your pitch for analysis in "The Gutter", and let us do some heavy lifting for you.

Have something you'd like to discuss with us, or a pitch you'd like to volunteer for analysis? Send us email at thegutter @ datacoresix.com and we'll give you our opinions!

I think rather than this being the MorganJ edition this should be labeled this the Divergence Edition. I really enjoyed how many times Maim said that things were going to be taken out that there clearly just left in there. Great job as always guys!

Funny thing was that there actually was a great deal edited out. (Not just the Hollow Men reveal, of course) All told, there was almost four hours of recording done over the two days of discussions. It made for challenging editing. And that damn song is still stuck in my head.

Hmm, I'm not sure the link is going to work but you can go to eBay and search for "Repulsive Iron Man".

I agree. Superman sucks. He has too many powers and he's pretty much invincible.

Mmm. She needed to bake at that point in time. I ate the results so I can't complain. Nonaimo bars. And Superman does not suck. He has been suckily portrayed, true. But right now Action Comics is really good. Geoff Johns and Gary Frank just finished a 6-issue arc and are starting another one next month with the same creative team. It's really good Superman stuff.

I had a long Superman response so I made it it's own blog.

Nice work on the podcast, I wished the first part of the interview went longer though. It sadly seems cut way too short. Keep up the great work! Fun to listen to.

It was unfortunate, but hopefully Morgan will come back and have a chat with us again, hopefully on a night where we're at full strength and can unleash the awesome might of our cynicism and wit upon him.

Did Bryce hear the podcast yet? I haven't gotten any hate mail yet, so I don't know what to think.

He's got a lot on his plate with school and stuff - I'm sure we'll hear from him soon

indeed... I've been wanting to hear this for a week now... but I haven't gotten the chance... with school and writing stories... and work... and general chaos... I've practically dropped off the boards altogether... needless to say, I haven't forgotten about all the things pending. My verdict? Let me get through May and I'll be back mid-June with a slew of strips, renders, collabs, pitches... you name it... :P Now to listen to the podcast... bwahahaaha!!! :P
