The script for Fala is finalized, the artist has been selected (great watercolor work, very excited to see what he does with this story), and the panels are well on their way to thumbnailing. And what was the hardest part for me so far? The freakin' sound effects! Chainsaws, police sirens, alarms, timers, car crashing, all that fun stuff. The challenge for me was trying to keep it from looking too silly.
Having said that, the most difficult sound effect was the flute music that Badger is playing. "Doo dooo doo" or "toot toot toot"? Forget that! I went with musical notes, which are up to the letterer to interpret. I may need to send some music sheets over, but most written music for the Native flute is in special six note pictures instead of western musical notes.

SFX are the hardest part for me, too. I wish there was a master list of comic SFX somewhere that we could reference...

By no means it is a master list, but when I was looking around for some I found the following site helpful in expanding my thought around the more traditional SFX --> http://www.comicvine.com/comic-sound-fx/12-45747/images/

I found this really hard too! I think I had a grand total of 2 SFX in Abigail's War, and one of them only became necessary when we saw the pencils and colours... the sound of a gunshot hitting a tree... at which point I listened to clips of rifle shots for about an hour, battling with the right word choice (and driving my dude crazy). I didn't want to use a word that seemed associated with a specific character... nor did I want to draw too much attention to the sound effect (given it's a period piece, I thought that would be weird). Eventually I ended up going with the very imaginative KRAK!

Favourite sound effect I used in the ReBoot comic was "KZZAAAASH." You can borrow it if you like.

Thanks, Juiceboy, that's a great start. Prof, don't be surprised if I do find a way to use your SFX someday -- "borrowing" SFX has a long tradition in comics...probably because there are only so many variations on CRACK and KRAK, unless you count endless multiple letters, then you can do stuff like KEYYYRRRRAAACKKK!
