MATT HOWL! WHERE ARE YOU?!

Oddly enough, I was just wondering if Matt would return once CCCN round two commences. But, I'm curious, Maim, what prompted this shocking letter?

Back in the day, Matt Howl used to be a regular PT Barnum when it came to making people aware of his work. I'm pretty sure he asked everyone at one time or another to read Hallow's Eve.

After my hiatus, I asked a few of the regulars to have a look at the first scene of Chapter 3 of Blake Undying that I posted yesterday, in order to jump-start the conversation. It just struck me that was what Matt Howl went through, to a certain lesser degree.

Mind you, he did have a certain adversarial streak that I still don't understand how I found myself in the crosshairs of.

...Vampires however, are awesome.

Vampires are awesome? Jason I'm shocked...Actually vamps do have a certain cool factor but I remain in the camp that they have been beaten to death(no pun intended) storywise. And if someone is just going to reinvent the mythology, then why not just make something new instead of flogging the same old Dark Prince.

I was lucky enough to be on the friendly end of the ol' boy. Which, for better or worse, afforded me insights into his true opinions on certain, shall we say, select members of the community at the time.

I shall leave it at that, and bid you... adieu.

I agree Mekikas, however just because they've been done to death doesn't mean that they can't occasionally be done right. Ask me how excited I was to hear that there was another Batman movie coming out when I first heard about "Batman Begins".

Exactly the same themes, and yet 78% more awesome.

Due to my unintentional hiatus, I missed out on what caused the friction between Matt and select members of the community, but I did butt heads with him on the issue of only voting for people with full scripts posted. But then he looked over my pitch and provided some public and private feedback that was very positive and helpful. I in turn offered him some feedback on his pitch, but shortly thereafter he vanished from the site. Maybe it was something I said? Nah.

As for Vampires, they really are awesome. And beloved superheroes are a good example of why we always go back to vampires. I often say that vampires are done to death, yet that doesn't stop me from enjoying Buffy, Angel, Blade, Underworld, the vamp episodes of Supernatural, etc., and it doesn't stop me from liking Matt's, Tenzil's, Puff Daddy's, PanicMan's and other vamp pitches here, such as the Vegan Vampire one. And I'm writing my own vampire comic right now, LOL.

This is a curious blast from the past!!

In comment to the whole PT barnum technique, it is truly a high wire balancing act to get just the right amount of attention.

(For the record, I do have a vampire story somewhere in my book of ideas.... doesn't everyone?)

Do I hear a common theme being requested for UT3? ;)

I could definitely see a vampire theme for UT3, LOL. But maybe a broader theme like classic creatures of the night, since we might as well throw in werewolves, ghosts, demons, and zombies...

@GW: Certainly worth considering. We'd discussed a questionnaire to gather seeds for a random generation of UT subject. Course, that was before I wandered into the desert all Howard Hughes style. Who knows if anyone is even interested in a UT3.

@Maria: Isn't it just? I favor the "add a bunch of new material on the site after two months of sporadic appearances and wait to choke to death on the dust and tumbleweeds" approach. ;)

Cripes, the Matt Howl post has gotten more response than the third Blake script. So yeah, hard to balance. XD

or perhaps any 'immortal' character...

wait a second. not including Blake. guess you've already gone down that path, Maim...

Okay then, *IF* there's UT3, let's go Supernatural.

I won't accept an all-vampire writing challenge. It's bound to get a bit too homoerotic for my taste when all of that's done...

  • 0

Lord Maim

21:26 Thu Jul 24th, 2008

Exactly what are your tolerances for homoeroticism? ;)

But seriously folks, I still think we should do the random drawing. Makes it more exciting. Like a lottery. Except with ideas.

Should revise the UT2 stuff and get interviews rolling beforehand. Lemme look into that.
I can test my recording and editing capablities using Ivy Crow. Yup, about time we did that.

22:01 Thu Jul 24th, 2008

Yes I concede because I must confess I do enjoy Buffy, Angel, and Underworld. So I guess if the right person is telling the story the dead horse rides again.

Up for anything in UT3. Wasn't looking forward to romance in UT2, but that seemed to go ok.

Fetternity

22:03 Thu Jul 24th, 2008

Yeah, Maim did in UT2 to spite me*, as well as Tenzil for the UT1.

That's why  suggested Supernatural, since it gives plenty of options to choose from without necessarily keeping it vampires-only. Lots of options to explore in the realm of supernatural horror.

(*when I say me, of course I mean MATT HOWL. But he just didn't get it when it was presented that way)

I don't think there's any "if" about it, UT3 will happen eventually. This thread alone shows there's enough interest. I'm in for supernatural or lottery. Or maybe we should do a supernatural lottery (where each person is given a random supernatural creature that has to be either their main protagonist or villain). Or we could keep supernatural creatures as the main theme but then do a lottery (either for the group or for individuals) which pairs supernatural with romance, sci-fi, fantasy, western, etc.
