Here's a pitch idea I have, but I need your help:
The time: That of the Roman Empire.
Septimus is a Gladiator, sold into slavery after being framed for the murder of his wife. He escapes and stows away on a ship to Britannia where his brother Sextus was the leader of a group of Legionaries. Because of Sextus's closeness to the Emperor, Septimus hopes that he'll be able to clear his name.

When he arrives in Britannia, he finds that Sextus and his legion disappeared months before while investigating some mysterious barbarian activity.

Eventually, Septimus comes into conflict with the Necovita, a race of Vampire-like creatures that may very well hold the secret to Septimus's past...and the future of the Empire.

The working title is Brittannia, but I need something better. Can I have some feedback/suggestions?

Umbra of Rutilus. Latin for Shadows of red. I'll try to come up with something that doesnt have obvious stuff like red or blood in the title.

craitnag folley

sooder folley
blood-sucker, vampire
sooderys folley
vampirism
folley
of blood, consanguinity

Here's a Celtic Cross (crosh).

Geko - Latin was spoken by the Romans, the barbarians are what the Romans called the Pictish tribes, and built Hadrian's wall to keep them out.  The Romans were never able to conquer them, and the Britannia conquest only included what is now England.  I am assuming the vampires would be native Picts who spoke Scottish Gaelic.

I'm no match for the power of history. But thanks, that was really interesting. A little something about the Roman empire I never knew.

And knowing is half the battle!

Since you didn't ask, I'm going to tell you anyway.  Your lead characters should have real names, save the numerical names for the grunts in the ranks.  I don't know if you're going to throw your usual humour into this, but the grunts with the numerical names could get axed in, you guessed it, numerical order.  The when, how and by who could be suspensful, but it's like the horror movie where the victim runs up the stares, you know they're about to bite it (pun intended).

Why can't I put this much thought into my own stuff?

Well, Sextus and Septimus were chosen because Septimus is a seventh child. Sextus was his older brother who watched out for him when they were young. Plague wiped out the rest of his family, so they were always there for each other.
