Hey Lotus fans,

Very sorry to have dropped off the face of the Earth for a little while but I think a lot of you would understand. Bad timing aside - just as the Greenberg contest wrapped up I was contacted by an up-and-coming video game company. The name I cannot reveal until at least January.

You want a success story? Through link passing, Facebook sharing and about 99.99% fluke, the company president stumbled upon my info and skill set as an interactive storyteller with a background in journalism. Through 6-degrees of separation he managed to grab my contact info and asked to see some of my work. Well, obviously I pointed him this way to check out Lotus because this is by far the best piece of work I can show anyone at this point in my career. The pres actually printed out the first issue of Lotus and started reading through the second issue.

To make a long and exhausting story short, he offered me a gig to script 2 video games for his company based on my style and attention to detail with character development. One game will be released in January (the web version only) and the high profile game will be released in Septmeber of 09.

NDA restricts me from getting into any details but I did ask him if I could make the news of me landing a gig through the comic public to the Z2H community.

The experience has been so euphoric and so amazing for both the company and myself that I've been asked to stay on board to script all of the dialogue and the entire story for the second game. The original contract was to write 12 character backstories but once I finished with that I pitched that I should be writing the entire story because I knew it so well and had the opportinity to develop the entire mythology behind the game.

That's the extent of the information I'm allowed to share, but I'll keep everyone posted as more info becomes public.

So.... Thanks to Z2H, thanks to all of your and thanks to Matt, Jessica, Julian, Miguel, Ian, Ed and everyone involved with Lotus thus far. You guys helped me get work in an industry I never thought possible!

BTW (sorry for this skyscraper blog post) Lotus isn't dead and I'm getting a break next month from the game to work on some other projects (mostly just Lotus). So keep checking out the page and I'll do my best to keep you all posted.

Lotus.

Hey everyone,

With Greenberg just around the corner I thought I'd share a little info with those who have been following Lotus since the beginning. From my understanding the Greenberg Fund folks (or the Fun-Folk) will be deciding between the top three books by ways of how much "heat" they have.

From the looks of it Lotus is hovering around the middle so unless there's some kind of miracle, it doesn't look like Lotus will be given the grant.

With that being said, I'd like to direct your attention to all of the books and the wonderful work the writers of Zeros 2 Heroes have put together. From Blake Undying's amazing ongoing stories and viral concepts, to the sheer brilliance of stories like Abigail's War and Gustav Hayes, I think there's a ridiculous amount of potential.

For those of you who have neglected to get back on the horn and start paying attention to some of these great properties, I think it's time to start getting back in the game.

There's plenty of time for Lotus to continue, and to be honest, I'm perfectly happy having the one issue complete. I think everyone should start voting, blogging, commenting and collecting as much as they can from all of the Comic Creation Nation Winners and Beta Books because at the end of the day you can always say that you helped with the creation of the next Big Comic Franchise - Okay maybe not "Big" but definitely entertaining to say the least.

I've met all of the winners (some in person and others via email) and I truly believe that any of them would be amazing embassadors of Z2H. All that's left to do is get involved!

Check out all of the amazing comic book action and get have your say!

Later,

Lotus.

Hey everyone,

Continuing with the theme I started yesterday I'd like to let everyone in on the master that is Ian Sokoliwski. As you can tell from the books The Mix by IanG and Minus One by Tenzil Kim as well as Lotus, Ian has been on a rampage with producing some great ink and colour work.

*BTW I'm using "Colour" and not "color" cause I'm north of the border.

Back to Ian. As you can probably tell from his impressive resume, his blog and his portfolio, Ian has been working in comics for quite some time. When I was contacted by Z2H about Lotus and was told that Ian would be both the inker and colouer, I have to admit, I wasn't sure how it was going to play out.

Good ol'Google helped me find out some information on Ian and I was hooked. His artwork is amazing and he approaches his craft like a true pro. Lotus was completed in iterations. Miguel would complete a few pages at a time and once approved they would be sent to Ian. Ian then sent me every single inked panel and then every single coloured panel for approval and all of it was inspiring.

Check him out sporting the Z2H shirt at a Con!

Here I was, this nobody with a word processor, having to approve inks and colours from a guy who's worked for Marvel, DC, Ape and Arcana! Obviously this was the first time I'd ever worked with an inker and colourer and I'm pretty sure Ian knew this, but he helped me through the process, made his work transparent and was open to the entire process!

Go check out his blog and portfolio

Again, if Lotus ever gets to continue, I'd want to work with Ian again.

If you have no idea why you've just landed on this page, then this post is for you.

First of all, Thank You to the "Fans of Scott L's Comic Book LOTUS," Facebook Group. I'm assuming if you have come here from that group then you probably aren't a Zeros 2 Heroes member.

This post is for all of you!

Okay, see that RED ARROW on the top left of the page? Click that to launch the comic. When you do it'll open a new page where you can read the entire issue.

If you have a tiny screen or terrible eyes then use the full screen mode

Click to flip the pages. You can click and drag, but when you're in the "zone" and you wanna read, clicking is quicker.

Role over the speech bubbles to make the words appear larger. Again if you have a small screen or bad eyes, this will help.

Make sure to read until the last page. I want to make sure everyone knows the crack team of ninjas that put this book together.

So when you're done reading the comic and you'd like to vote, then you're going have to join Zeros 2 Heroes. I've laid out some of the benefits on the Facebook Group so you can refer back to that post if you like.

You can join by clicking on the button at the top of the page that says "BECOME A FAN." It'll bring up a little pop-up box that you can fill in very quickly as well assign you a LOTUS specific avatar!

*Remember! Only become a FAN if you truly are a fan.

Once you become a member of Zeros 2 Heroes you can freely explore the site to it's fullest meaning you can now blog and comment and even upload your own content!

Thanks and I hope this helps

Lotus.

Oh my, the infamous loaded question we're all struggling with at the moment. So what is the five year arc and possible movie trilogy for Lotus?

I always have trouble looking into the future...

I was actually asked this question a couple of years ago and at the time I envisioned Lotus as 3-part graphic novel that tells the story of Corbin and his struggles with morality, mortality and his new found "talent." But since then (and since then I've uploaded the pitch into the Zeros 2 Heroes Pitch Doctor) I've had numerous comments and suggestions as to where Lotus could go.

First off, I wrote the entire story of Lotus a while back and like a diligent pessimist, I figured it would never be made and I finished it only for my own sanity. Well, once again I was WRONG!

When I put the first issue of Lotus into the Pitch Doctor I started to have a barrage of ideas as to where the property could go. So here goes:

Lotus' 5-year run takes Corbin through the environment of The Garden. He meets and develops special relationships with numerous characters but the main focus will be on Corbin?s interactions with his eventual mentor Mike Angelo.

Throughout year one as Lotus, Corbin excels. He impresses his superiors, he develops a personality that is accepted and he starts to realize that "life," or whatever people want to call it, has purpose. Seeing as how Corbin cut off his emotions and lived in a constant state of depression, the first year teaches him that there's more to life than the typical cycle of ups and downs.

Year 2 introduces the intricate relationship between Corbin and Mike Angelo. Corbin initially sees Mike as a mentor, someone who has been doing the job for a while and has a lot of war stories to share. But as the year progresses, Corbin watches Mike's enthusiasm deteriorate and Mike's relationship with the big boss Jordan become volatile. The year ends with Corbin having to make a big decision, stay loyal to his mentor, or secretly help phase him out of the process.

The 3rd year begins with a mystery. Did Corbin decide to stick with Mike and defy Jordan? Or did he take Jordan up on his offer to lead the department? The year begins with Mike on a "leave of absence," leaving Corbin in charge of collecting souls in masses. He starts to develop a strong relationship with Jordan and actually discovers the inner workings of the Garden. At the conclusion of the year Mike returns and Corbin has changed.

Year four brings up a lengthy challenge for both Mike and Corbin. Jordan pits them against each other telling them the Garden can only keep one of them. Mike sees his work as a duty, something that just needs to be done in order to keep the cycle of living and dying. At this point Corbin sees his work as a purpose and sets a goal of impressing Jordan. The conclusion of year four brings Corbin face to face with Mike in a battle for job security. Being the aggressor, Corbin ultimately wins and Mike is left out of the process.

The fifth and final year of Lotus begins with Corbin realizing the importance of Mike and what he actually meant. Corbin starts to remember Mike's teachings from years back and begins to change. He realizes that the cycle of life is nothing more than a cycle that never ends for him and he wants to get off the ride. The only way to do so is to go straight to the top, Jordan. Corbin devises a plan to defy Jordan at his weakest point and make Jordan grant him his wish of finally ending his life.

So that's the Lotus five-year arc. I'm pretty content on centering the story on Corbin and his decisions and each season completes an important piece of the entire narrative.

Movie trilogy is on the way. I'll make it the feature post when I?m done.

Thanks,
Later

I'd love to be able to make more books for Lotus mostly because, as the writer, I don't like leaving things incomplete. I'm happy to share that I'm not one of those writers with 60 unfinished...
