maria the dreamer a.k.a. carmen wright

To me, story is about relationship dynamics. As well, I like to explore worlds that are similar to but not exactly like our own. Some of my writer friends claim I should write about real stuff, like the very old nun who was in the bed next to me when I was in hospital for some surgery and how scared she was to go back to the place she lived. Perhaps one day...

But I'd rather write a game based on my pain-killer induced dream during that same hospital visit, about a girl on a quest with her grandmother and the very bizarre things they encounter. First things first, come on!

My past credits include an episode for a TV series and a couple of games. I’ve completed two kids chapter books and non-fiction title that I’m in the process of submitting. I'm also about half-way though a YA novel -- actually book one is done, but now I've decided to make it a stand-alone instead of a trilogy, so still working.

I like to be involved in a community of writers. Z2H has filled that spot recently; otherwise I’d be over at ‘kidcrit’, an online critique group for professional writers working on stuff for kids and teens.

Lots of water and not much land. People had a while to prepare for it, to get used to it. Still, some have handled it better than others.

Lucia loves her job patrolling the waters surrounding Cascadia, watching over water crops and fish stocks. But lately, the Cordovans - who opted to squander their resource base - have been ramping up their raids. Now, flying patrol is far more dangerous. To make matters worse, the military has started sniffing around, which means making room for a new guy in the midst of a traditionally all-female patrol squad.

Then, a strange trio of women appears, claiming to be leaders of an underwater civilization long cut-off from land dwellers. A criminal from their prison has escaped and fled towards Cascadia. They wish for assistance in recapturing him.

In Lucia's opinion, this trio poses as much a threat to Cascadia's future as the pro-military factions. What bad luck that's she's getting swept into the middle of it.
