Med school student Joyce Levin returns from a long night of cramming when she happens upon a fearsome sight: the body of a man lying in a filthy backstreet, shimmering with an otherworldly light taking the shape of a woman... A woman who gestures to her to keep quiet... and then fades away. Seeking to help the man, Joyce takes him with her home where she nurses him back to health.
