Stephen Cmelak (left, obviously) is a 32-year old unpublished writer living in Toronto, masquerading by day as an overworked, underpaid and under-appreciated retail manager. A second-generation comic nerd and film geek, he was raised on a steady diet of 4-colour superhero comics and sappy romantic dramedies from the 50's and 60's. November's Song is his attempt at fusing the two, a love letter to the star-crossed lovers and men-in-tights of a bygone era, which hopefully should make both his parents equally proud. (Or at least evenly bemused).

And no, Kevin Smith doesn't really endorse Stephen, or his work. He was, however, cool enough not to call security after this photo was taken, which is practically the next best thing...

Drop me a comment, either to critique my pitch(es) or just to shoot the bull on all things geek, and we'll party like rockstars...if rockstars read nerdy blogs about making comics.

"A great logline can be found on Ruroshen?s pitch November?s Song. ?Boy meets girl. Boy loves girl. Boy loses girl. Girl destroys universe?? might actually sell you on this idea alone. With an all (almost) Canadian cast, November?s Song tells a modern day story of a super hero looking to step out beyond his father?s shadow. In a comedic, yet appropriate tone, this pitch touches on love, deception, and all of those amazing feelings you get when you?re toying between two universes and a gnome?"
